Les origines de lentreprise remontent au milieu du XVIIIe siècle et Jacques Gevril, horloger suisse doué qui est le fondateur et linspiration de la marque éponyme. Aujourdhui, le nom de Gevril perdure grâce à la vision dun horloger suisse et dun homme daffaires qui a levé la marque à ses hauteurs actuelles en tant que société de montres suisse établie. Jacques Gevril était un horloger prometteur en 1758 lorsquil a accompagné son collègue Pierre Jaquet-Droz lors dun voyage à Madrid. Là, les hommes ont présenté une sélection dautomates musicaux complexes au roi Ferdinand VI. Le roi était tellement impressionné quil avait acheté chaque pièce. Jaquet-Droz est rentré chez lui lannée suivante, mais Gevril est resté en Espagne pour fortifier sa réputation de maître horloger et a été nommé horloger royal par le roi. Gevril a vécu en Espagne pendant de nombreuses années par la suite, affinant son métier et produisant des montres pour la Couronne. Les traditions de Gevril ont survécu par les générations futures de gardiens de Gevril, dont Moyse Gevril et Daniel Gevril, qui ont construit leur réputation sur les innovations horribles et les techniques démail artistique. Aujourdhui, les montres de poche Gevril sont des montres de collection: lune est même située dans le Museum Genève et une autre fait partie de la collection de la famille Wilsdorf, fondatrice de Rolex.
