I will begin the description wishing you all an happy 2024. To me, one of my new year (horological) resolutions was to slim down my collection even further so this week I will put up for sale a few watches that I have for a long time and that I was not planning on selling It really hurts to see them leave but I’m focusing my collection on more modern pieces. Despite that fact I really nourish and love a lot of the vintage watches I still have. That’s why that more important than the amount this auction might fetch is the hope that their new owners appreciate them as much as I do. Fingers crossed… All those watches are offered without reserve and this particular one is no exception It is the third cricket I will be selling in the last couple of months. This is the first with an all stainless steel case. I will give you the small introduction to the model that I wrote for the other crickets I sold: This model is called the president’s watch amongst collectors. Apparently no other watch in history has been more often on the wrist of several commander-in-chiefs than this particular model In the 40’s the caliber 120 was created with two barrels. This enabled the alarm function to be activated without draining out the entire power reserve of the mechanism. A few years later the ingenious double case design of this watch was created and the “cricket sound” was born :) I would date this watch from late 40’s / beginning of the 50’s. Having the original caliber 120 it belongs to the first generation batch The dual tone dial is beautiful. The white and champagne hues make a very classy combo that emphasise the gold indexes. It is much more appealing in person when compared with the photos (I find these crickets hard to photograph). The dial has a few blemishes all visible in the pictures. Nothing too serious, fortunately The hands are the original ones to the rest of the watch. The lume material in this watch is radium The case has 33,5mm without crown. The reference is the “202” if I’m not mistaken. It is all in stainless steel, as already stated, and despite some wear scratches/dings it is in good condition showing little signs of polishing The movement was… never serviced since I have it and being in a bank vault for years doesn’t do wonders to any watch. I notice that it has a low amplitude and (dial up) it runs between -14 and -4 seconds a day . It is working (alarm function and setting the hands included) but it does need a service if you’re planning on using it on a daily basis. No rust to be seen here, fortunately The crown (signed) and the pusher are both original to this watch No particular value on strap and buckle that are, nevertheless, in good condition and ready to wear I’m not exaggerating when I say that I reluctantly sell this piece. Finding them in good condition is becoming harder and harder and prices aren’t definitely the same from the ones of 10 years ago. Pour moi, une de mes résolutions (horlogères) du nouvel an sets de réduire encore plus ma collection, donc, cette semaine je mettrai en vente quelques montres que je possède depuis longtemps et que je n'avais pas l'intention de vendre Ça fait vraiment mal de les voir partir mais j’oriente ma collection vers des pièces plus modernes. Malgré cela, je nourris et j’aime vraiment beaucoup de montres vintage que j’ai encore. C’est pourquoi l’espoir que leurs nouveaux propriétaires les apprécieront autant que moi est plus important que le montant que cette vente aux enchères pourrait rapporter. Doigts croisés… Toutes ces montres sont proposées sans réserve et celle-ci ne fait pas exception C'est la troisième cricket que je vends au cours des deux derniers mois. C'est la première avec un boîtier entièrement en acier inoxydable. Je vais vous faire la petite introduction au modèle que j'ai écrit pour les autres que j'ai vendu: Ce modèle est appelé la montre du président parmi les collectionneurs. Apparemment, aucune autre montre dans l'histoire n'a été plus souvent portée au poignet de plusieurs présidents que ce modèle particulier Dans les années 40, le calibre 120 avec deux barillets a été créé. Cela a permis d'activer la fonction d'alarme sans vider toute la réserve de marche du mécanisme. Quelques années plus tard, l'ingénieux design à double boîtier de cette montre a été créé et le « son du cricket » est né :) Je daterais cette montre de la fin des années 40/début des années 50. Possédant le calibre 120 d'origine, il appartient au lot de première génération Le cadran bicolore est magnifique. Les teintes blanc et champagne forment un combo très classe qui met en évidence les index dorés. C'est beaucoup plus attrayant en personne par rapport aux photos (je trouve ces montres difficiles à photographier). Le cadran présente quelques défauts tous visibles sur les photos. Rien de bien grave, heureusement Les aiguilles sont celles d'origine du reste de la montre. Le matériau lumineux de cette montre est le radium Le boîtier fait 33,5 mm sans couronne. La référence est le « 202 » si je ne me trompe pas. Tout est en acier inoxydable, comme déjà indiqué, et malgré quelques rayures/chocs d'usure, il est en bon état et montre peu de signes de polissage. Le mouvement n’a jamais été entretenu depuis que je l’ai. Rester dans un coffre-fort pendant des années ne fait pas des merveilles pour aucune montre. Je remarque qu'il a une faible amplitude et (cadran vers le haut) il fonctionne entre -14 et -4 secondes par jour. Tout marche (fonction alarme et réglage des aiguilles inclus) mais nécessite une révision si vous comptez l'utiliser au quotidien. Pas de rouille visible ici, heureusement La couronne (signée) et le poussoir sont tous les deux originaux de cette montre Pas de valeur particulière sur le bracelet et la boucle qui sont néanmoins en bon état et prêts à porter Je n’exagère pas lorsque je dis que je vends cette pièce à contrecœur. Les trouver en bon état devient de plus en plus difficile et les prix ne sont définitivement plus les mêmes qu’il y a 10 ans.
