The Bulova Accutron wristwatch was the first completely electronic (without a balance wheel) wristwatch to come to market back in the year 1960. By the time Bulova ceased production of the Accutron tuning fork wristwatch in 1977 they had sold over 5 million Accutrons. The Spaceview was never intended for the public marketplace. It was originally made for jewelers and watch sellers alike to show off the revolutionary electronic tuning fork movement to prospective buyers. Bulova was so proud of its accomplishment that they thought customers would like to see the green tuning fork movement and how right they were! So they made a crystal with the hour and minute track for customers to be able to read the time like a regular watch of the period. Without realizing it Joseph Bulova had created an absolute sensation! So the space view was born! Because the Bulova company had shipped thousands of the Accutron 214 wristwatches to jewelers all over the world they went about sending out conversion kits comprising of the space view crystal, spacer ring and a set of white hands to their jewelers shops. For just a few dollars the jeweler would offer to convert the Accutron 214 you were buying right in front of you to a Spaceview. Many of these still exist today.The first Accutrons to leave the Bulova factory were made in solid gold. The man-size watch case measures 35.5mm in diameter by 39.8mm from the top lug tip to bottom lug tip. The 214 tuning fork 17 jewel movement is very, very clean. It has been serviced by an Accutron specialist. All vital friction points have been lubricated with the correct oils. The movement was phased and timed using the correct Bulova timing equipment and is very accurate. The watch has a black leather watch band. The watch will come with a black gift/watch box. Also included is an extra battery, for when the existing battery runs out. They are very easy to replace by unscrewing the battery hatch cover with a dime. Taking out the old battery and then putting in the new battery. Replace the battery hatch cover and screw it tight with said dime. Super easy to do and no need for a trip to the jewelers. This is a lovely 50-year-old timepiece that is in excellent running serviced condition. Keep it in the box when its not in use it will last you another 50 years with your gentle care and will be ready to be handed down to the next generation of your kids and their kids.
