Avia 9ct Yellow Gold Swiss Made Mechanical Hand Wind 15J Vintage Watch Please Read Before Buying; This watch winds & runs well however it does lose time. When tested over a 24 hour period it lost around 30 minutes. It will require a service if you want it back to accurate time keeping! About the watch & condition:  Here we have a nice vintage Avia Mechanical watch. The watch is made from 9ct gold which adds to the value & quality of it. The watch itself is running well but does lose time as mentioned previously. . More details below; The champagne coloured dial on this watch looks great especially with the textured sub dial at the bottom. It does have a patina on as shown with some general wear from over the years but nothing major at all. You can see in some of the numbers on the markers there’s some minor wear but you don’t actually notice much. The Crystal has some light scratches but nothing major at all. Gives you a nice clean view of the dial overall! The case is made from 9ct Gold and weighs around 6g with just the cases & Crystal. Good amount of gold value! Condition wise it looks great as shown, some minor general wear but this is expected from a vintage watch. The crown works and winds absolutely fine with no issues! Its sat on a nice leather strap which suits the watch well and will fit a wrist sized 7 3/4 Inches or smaller. The strap will need repairing or replacing as currently it’s been sellotaped & super glued around the bits which go through the lugs. If it’s not sorted it could potentially fall off. It will be super easy & cheap to change though! This watch is a mechanical watch, this means it needs to be wound for it to work. Please know this when buying! Recessed slightly textured sub dial with black Arabic numbers and black seconds chapters.Finely cut original blued steel correct double spade half hunter hands (so allowing for easy time check through the front cover) and original blued steel steel arrow tip seconds hand all in lovely straight, unmarked order.Original hunter glass and original outer domed glass (both not acrylic) in clear, bright condition with few tiny (micro again) surface scratches showing under eyeglass to outer only.CASE;-The highly polished (5cm diameter / 7cm from top of bow to base), 9 carat (professionally tested) rose gold filled half hunter case is heavy (has a pleasing solid feel in the hand and total watch weight is a hefty 107.3 grams), robust and in outstanding condition - absolutely no indentations, one very small area of wear to front of case stem only and just some light and fine little overall surface scratches commensurate with age and use in her 92 years service. All covers (both inside and out) still retain their original, high gloss, mirror finish.The front cover is hinged at the nine position, opens correctly to exactly 90 degrees when the winder is depressed, closing tightly with a very reassuring click (always depress the winder when closing to save wear to the gold and also the catch) and the large hinge is true and firm with absolutely no play.The back cover and dust cover are again hinged at the 9 position, open correctly to exactly 90 degrees, closing with a very reassuring click and both hinges are also true and firm with no play.Beautifully adorned to the front cover with bold jet black enamel Roman numerals which are in amazing condition with no chips or fading - as are the black enamel inner and outer chapter rings.Numbered to the inside of the front cover; 1053480.The back cover is clearly stamped to the inside in Art Deco style script; STAR DENNISON WATCH CASE Co LTD and is again numbered; 1053480.This number is correctly partially repeated to the inside back case cuvette; 3480.Stamped to the inside of the dust cover; ENGLISH MAKE THIS CASE GUARANTEED TO WEAR 10 YEARS and is numbered; 1053480 31 A - the 31 is the Dennison date numbering system; 1931 and the A is the first letter of the surname of the Goldsmith who pinned the case joints - unfortunately on this occasion I have been unable to identify him.MOVEMENT;-The stem wound and set high grade Swiss 15 ruby jewelled, 3/4 steel plate lever movement is in bright and clean order and as mentioned above has just been fully checked and serviced.Carries the most wonderful, slightly frosted geometric and swirl engine turning to the top plates which remains as crisp and clear today as the day they were made.Has a solid bi-arm balance with brass balance screws and two brass meantime screws (for precision timing), steel overcoil balance spring which is true, in the round and breathing well, large ruby jewels in sunken chaton settings, ruby end stone and pallet jewels, attractive swirl engine turning to the mainspring and ratchet barrel covers and original matching case screws.Clearly stamped on the top plates in arched script; 15 JEWELS SWISS MADE and is stamped around the mainspring barrel cover; *** 3 ADJUSTMENTS.Numbered to the bottom plate (under the dial); 646 355 and this number is also correctly partially repeated to the underside of the balance cock; 355.Balance action is absolutely tremendous in all positions (could not be any better) and is keeping excellent time with a sure, strong positive action. Runs like a train!Winds extremely smoothly and fully (do not be afraid to fully wind, over-winding is the greatest horological myth!) Hand set operates smoothly and correctly - the pull up/push down action is very firm and true. The mechanism is stamped Swiss made, 15 jewel, 3 adjustments. A truly stunning piece of Georgian VI workmanship. The inner case is stamped B.W.C, London Made, with 9/375 for 9ct gold and 25. It also has the Edinburgh assay castle hallmark with gothic date letter g for 1937. Considering this beautiful Enicar pocket watch is 81 years old its in excellent working condition. It does have some beautiful age-related 9ct gold patination, commensurate with 81 years of age, but nothing unusual. Its also just been cleaned, lubricated and serviced, so should give its purchaser years of trouble-free enjoyment.EnicarThe Racine family was well-known in watchmaking as early as the 1700s. They were French-speaking and lived in the Swiss Jura. There were many watchmaking businesses with a Racine family member involved, though only a few actually used the family name. One, Jules Racine Sr., had registered the family name as a watch brand.Therefore, when Ariste Racine and his wife Emma Blatt began their Manufacture dHorlogerie Artiste Racine in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1913, they were unable to sell watches under their own name. The case is hallmarked Birmingham 1989, made by Dennison. #325473 ORIS Cal.380 Swiss made, 15 Jewel movement, working but is erratic, will stop suddenly. Classic vintage dial with a mix of gilt Arabic numerals and batons with gilt hands. 18.5mm across inc Crown, 23mm in length, and 7.5mm deep.Cosmetically in good condition, some light scratches on the crystal but still decent for a pre-owned watch.
