I recently was able to purchase a nice watch collection From a watchmaker in Des Moines Iowa. It is clear that he loved Pocket Watches and spent a lot of time and money making sure that his watches were in the best condition possible. I have not serviced these watches myself, but judging by the notes he put on each envelope as he serviced them, He is rather detail oriented. We offer for your consideration this vintage Elgin pocket watch. This pocket watch is Non-OperationalThe watch can be set, but will not wind, perhaps a detached mainspring. This is an vintage 1909 Elgin pocket watch in a open face hunting case. This case measures approximately 51 mm in diameter.The case is brass 14 karat gold filled. This case shows no signs of brassing. The front bezel, and back cover are screw set. The case engraving is a radial cross hatch, with a center badge of scrolled leaves and flowers that create a wreath. The center of the wreath is a perfect spot for the engraving of initials.The edge of the case is coin grooved. The dial of this watch is flush white porcelain enamel with a sunk seconds dial. The face is clean, but there are some hairline fractures that run from the right side of the sunk dial, one runs through the numeral 4, up yo the numeral 3, another parallels the number 5 (See picture)The 12 hours are marked with fine line black roman numerals. Along the outside the minutes are indicated as small black ticks, with triangular black ticks at the five minute intervals.Outside of the minute ticks, there are small red arabic numerals marking the 5 minute intervals.The minute and hour hands are fine blued steel, in a whip spade style. The sweep seconds hand has its own dial and has a Moon shape at its aft end. The seconds are marked in small black arabic numerals at ten second intervals. (See pictures) This watch will require a new crystal and Mainspring reattachment.
