C1940s Original Swiss West End Watch Company. 17 jewel Military/ Army type Gents wristwatch Fully serviced in excellent working order. A Army style wristwatch dating from around the 1940s made by famous Swiss watch maker West End Watch Company (reg 1887). The seventeen jewel half plate Sowar Prima movement with centre sweep seconds has a club tooth straight line lever. a oversprung mono-metallic balance with compensation screws and white metal balance spring, index on cock engraved AR-FS and has a protective push on brass dustcover.The round stainless steel case is stamped on the rear decagonal screw back cover West End Watch co Everbrite Swiss made along with the W & Star trade mark logo and serial numbered 6746 566. The inner side of the rear cover is Swiss case maker stamped F.B (Francois Borgel which later became Taubert & Fils and is worded Patent.The metal dial with Arabic numerals is signed West End Watch Co, Sowar, Prima Swiss made and has the Swiss cross.The later Army type green canvas strap with stainless steel clasps is a decent long length and suitable for all gents wrist sizes from medium to XL. Watch case diameter size is 28mm not including lug measurement. Condition: The movement has been fully cleaned and serviced in June 2021,it is running strongly and is an excellent day in day out mechanical time keeper.The mainspring runs for a respectably long 40+ hours duration from fully wound up. A new case gasket and stem seal has been fitted during service to keep out the general weather and rain, in their day the manufacturers claim these watches can be submerged underwater it would be advisably to have it professionally pressure tested before attempting to so sold as not submersible just to be on the safe side. The dial and hands are in reasonably good condition with some discolour due to age patina and sunlight which adds character to its authenticity .The hands still glow in the dark,the illuminare on the dial itself is no longer active.The acrylic crystal is in good condition without any scratches.
